Layers — back to front

Pick one image for something still, or several at once for one animation — they become its frames, in filename order. You can also drag images straight onto the picture.

Nothing yet. Add the background first — it sits at the back.

Texture budget

Cost is the file's pixel size, not the size you draw it at. A small image stretched to fill the screen is cheap; a huge one shrunk down is not. A Roku has about 23 MB.

Reminders

Only animate what moves. A candle flame as its own 8 frames plus a still candlestick costs a fraction of one big sequence containing both.

Every frame the same size. Don't trim each frame to its content or the character will jump.

Layers stack in the order above. A still can sit in front of an animation — a curtain, a bed post.
